In Portugal’s last-16 encounter against Switzerland, Ronaldo did not start after starting all three group games. After that, he watched as Portugal crushed the Swiss 6-1, with his replacement, Gonçalo Ramos, scoring a hat trick.

This sparked reports that an enraged Ronaldo will boycott the World Cup, which prompted the Portuguese organization to refute such claims in a statement.

In the quarterfinal, Portugal did only one change to their lineup: Ruben Neves replaced William Carvalho.

The injuries to Morocco’s two wounded defenders, Noussair Mazraoui and Nayef Aguerd, dealt a shock to the country. Jawad El Yamiq and Yahia Attiyat Allah took their seats.
