Together with fellow Olympic medallist Lindsey Vonn, Roger Federer is continuing to make the most of his retirement by spending time on the slopes.

Downhill skiing gold medallist Vonn shared a video of herself with the 20-time Grand Slam champion, who is set to hang up his racquets following the 2022 Laver Cup, on social media. She captioned the photo with a touching message of support for her longtime friend.

“Yes, @rogerfederer, I finally got to go skiing with my friend Roger!” Vonn sent a message on Instagram. I need to give this some serious thought and consider what it means to me. Roger is an amazing champion, humanitarian, and athlete who I have always admired. People you look up to usually disappoint you in some manner, but Roger is different.

“In every way, Roger embodies the qualities of a genuine sportsman and champion. Since we’ve been discussing going skiing together for so long, I wasn’t sure whether it would ever happen. But now here we are, enjoying life, skiing, and retired! Regards, Rog, for this recollection. You are genuinely unique, as is your family, and no matter what You’re my forever, as the statistics say (or Leo, hehe), because even if I’m only one among millions, what matters to me is the influence you have had on me. My buddy, cheers πŸ™πŸ»πŸ«ΆπŸ».

Friends with Federer dating back more than ten years, Vonn first shared the same caption on Twitter/X. However, she later decided to remove it after it seemed she unintentionally sparked an informal debate about who the greatest player of all time was. Supporters of Novak Djokovic quickly reminded the 2009 World Champion skier that the numbers did, in fact, favor their man.

She added in an updated post, “I didn’t want the negativity of the comments to ruin a great memory.”

Strangely enough, Djokovic was also getting in some winter sports action this past weekend, snapping a photo with his own pair of skis in between posts to his Instagram story.

But who is the greatest skier of all time in tennis? That may be a discussion better discussed in person.
